About this Case Study

This session is a transformation case study in 3 acts.

Act 1: NHS Alpha

The NHS Alpha project took place over 12 weeks, starting in late 2015. We'll answer these questions about it:

  • Why was the NHS Alpha project started?
  • What did it aim to achieve and what did it produce?
  • How did we work, and what did we work on? What did we find out?
  • How did we measure our success or failure?

Act 2: Register with a GP

Post NHS Alpha, prioritisation took place to create a large programme of work within NHS Digital (HSCIC as was). One project within that programme is the Register with a GP transactional service. We'll answer these questions about it:

  • Why start with GP registration?
  • What did it aim to achieve and what did it produce?
  • How did we work, and what did we work on? What did we find out?
  • How did we measure our success or failure?
  • Where is the service now?

Act 3: some thoughts about 'transformation'

The final act looks at where digital transformation, and the ways of working associated with it, can be successful and create genuinely useful things. It also looks at growing pains - where things can stall, go wrong, or be problematic.

About the Speaker

Mat has been in digital of some kind or other for nearly 20 years. From scripting Quark to generate local newspaper ads (don't ask), through agency land, to finding a home as a designer in government. He's currently working in the Digital Transformation team at the Department of Health.
